Concern over number of motorcycle fatalities this year

Motorcyclists accounted for 12% of road fatalities in 2014 and the RSA says that trend looks set to continue this year.

The Road Safety Authority say they're concerned about the number of motorcycle fatalities on Irish roads this year.

If follows a road traffic accident last week on the Drimoleague to Skibbereen Road which claimed the life of a male motorcyclist in his 20s, and last night a motorcyclist in his mid 30s who was killed when his motorbike hit a crash barrier on the M50.

The RSA and An Garda Síochána issued an appeal earlier this year where drivers were urged to watch out for motorcyclists using the roads as both 2013 and 2014 figures show peaks in motorcycle fatalities during April/May, June and July.

Speaking to RedFM News Brian Farrell of the RSA says the fatality figures to date so far this year should serve as a warning to all road users:
