Concerns expressed over demand on A&E's services in Cork

The INMO have called a meeting in October to discuss the overcrowding crisis.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation have expressed concerns overthe demand on Emergency Departments in Cork coming into the winter months.

The comments come as Health Minister Leo Varadker has committed to an extra 300 hospital beds by the end of the year to try and tackle overcrowding in A&E's nationwide.

However, the INMO say there are a lot of unanswered questions regarding the announcement including where the beds will be placed and how they will be staffed.

The latest figures from the INMO showed a 350% increase on the number of patients on hospital trolleys in Cork University hospital last month in comparison to the same period in 2014.

The union are calling an emergency meeting of it's ED Nurse Representatives in early October to dicsuss the overcrowding crisis.

Speaking to RedFM News, INMO's Mary Rose Carroll says an increase in patient numbers could potentially impact on care.
