Concerns expressed over flood insurance cover

It comes as some towns in Cork have been hit with severe flooding in the past.

The Finance Minister has dashed hopes of introducing a scheme whereby towns who have benefited from flood prevention works can get flood insurance cover.

Michael Noonan says insurance provision is a commercial matter and he is unable to instruct firms to provide flood cover to individuals.

It comes after calls by traders in Cork towns such as Fermoy and Blackpool who have been hit by severe flooding in recent years to tackle the issue of insurance cover which they believe will inhibit their town from recovering and growing.

Speaking to RedFM News Blackpool trader Ger Buckley says the government need to intervene.
