Concerns Expressed Over High Excise Tax In Hospitality Sector
The future of Cork's hospitality and drinks business is in jeopardy due to Ireland's high alcohol excise tax.
That's according to the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland which says Cork's hospitality and drinks businesses generate €784 million in revenue for the local tourism economy.
Nearly 20,000 people are employed in the sector in Cork but concerns have been expressed about the threats of high excise tax and Brexit as tourists seek more affordable holiday destinations.
40% of all visitors to Ireland originate from the UK, but a slump in the value of sterling value post-Brexit has already had a significant impact.
Speaking to RedFM News Cork TD Dara Murphy says establishing new routes and new markets will be crucial in combating the effects of Brexit:
