Concerns incinerator plans will scupper Government's promise

Plans have resurfaced for a new incinerator in Ringaskiddy.

Plans which have resurfaced for a new incinerator in Ringaskiddy will undermine the Government's promise to clean up Haulbowline.

That's according to the Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment who have been campaigning for the past four years to block any attempts at building an incinerator in the harbour.

The government's Capital Investment Plan for the region includes a €60 million funding commitment to clean up Haulbowline however CHASE says this will be pointless if an incinerator gets the green light.

Indaver is lodging a planning application to An Bord Pleanála in January for a new €160 million incinerator which would have capacity to accept 240,000 tons of waste.

Speaking to RedFM News Mary O'Leary of Chase says an incinerator doesn't fit with the future vision of Cork harbour.
