Concerns over recent rise in Southside suicides
Concerns have been raised in the Southside of the City following 8 deaths by suicide over the past 3 weeks.
Figures from the National Suicide Research Foundation have shown that Cork has the highest suicide rate in the country with "suicide clusters" in a particular geographical area over a short space of time becoming more common
The Health Service Executive have confirmed that they will be offering support services to members of the community affected by the high number of suicides in the area.
The HSE have reminded people that Pieta House offers bereavement services, and have urged family and friends to avail of them.
Speaking to RedFM News Dr Ella Arensman of the NSRF says identifying the underlying cause and counselling services for peer groups are key to preventing more suicides:
