Concerns over security issues ahead of conference debate on Israel

A controversial conference debate on the legal legitimacy of Israel which is due to take place Leeside this month is back in the spotlight today.
It emerged that the green light was given to the conference by UCC after organiser met a number of conditions in particular those relating to security arrangements.
The Israeli embassy issued a statement about the conference in January and said it was deeply concerned and claimed activists were seeking to promote and unbalanced agenda within academic institutions.
One day of the conference is being held on UCC campus and a further two days are scheduled to take place in City Hall.
City Council have confirmed they have taken the booking but are also due to discuss security arrangements with organisers.
The Irish Examiner reports organisers have a security plan for both venues have discussed the details with a Garda representative.
