Concerns Raised Over Comments On Public Health Alcohol Bill

Alcohol Action Ireland has raised concerns over what they say is divisive language used by some organisations in relation to the proposed Public Health Alcohol Bill.
The Bill contains a range of measures designed to reduce alcohol consumption in Ireland, but has not yet been enacted into law.
The group have objected to claims by the drinks industry and local business interests, that the bill would effectively mean a ban on sponsorship of events by drinks companies.
Alcohol Action Ireland says the bill does contain a modest set of regulations that will limit the appeal of alcohol advertising to children, but does not propose any prohibition on alcohol sponsorship of the arts or cultural events.
The bill has been working its way through the various stages of the houses since December 2015, but progress has been stalled in the Seanad since last October.
