Construction Industry calls on school leavers to consider apprenticeships

Ireland's economic recovery may be hampered by a skills shortage within the construction sector if more is not done to attract people into the industry.
That's according to the Construction Industry Federation who are leading urgent calls for the number of apprenticeships to rise substantially in order to deliver housing and infrastructure requirements.
The Rebuilding Ireland Plan to address the housing crisis, which was launched last July, found that 25,000 homes a year need to be built by 2020 and the CIF says 112,000 construction workers will be needed in Ireland between now and 2020.
Speaking to RedFM News Dermot Carey of the CIF says school leavers need to broaden their horizons and look beyond college as an option for their futures:
