Contactless payments on the rise Leeside

The 'Cork Cashes Out' scheme was launched last year.

Cork has seen a significant increase in the number of contactless payment transactions since the 'Cork Cashes Out' scheme was launched last year.

That's according to the Cork Business Association who were responding to new data from Visa which showed a 12.7% rise in card spending last year.

The initiative capitalised on Budget 2016 which abolished the €5 stamp duty tax on all debit and ATM cards and has allowed Cork to lead the way in cementing Ireland's position as a cashless society.

It follows the recent ranking of Cork as the best small city in Europe for its Foreign Direct Investment strategy.

Speaking to RedFM News Laurence Owens of the CBA says these types of initiatives are showcasing what the city has to offer.
