Cork Airport Rejects Suggestions That Length Of The Main Runway Is A Threat To Growth

The Airport says aircraft such as the Boeing 757 are capable of operating routes to the East Coast and Canada without necessarily extending the main runway
The Airport made the comments following the announcement that Norwegian Air will cut all of it's Irish transatlantic routes from September, leading to concerns that passenger growth could drop off in Cork.
The grounded Boeing 737-MAX fleet was able to operate from the 2.1 kilometre runway. Multiple transatlantic aircraft are also capable of operating from the main runway.
There has been no progress on a plan to extend the runway by 250 metres, however management say that proposals to cut passenger charges at Dublin Airport by up to 20% remain the number one threat.
Speaking to RedFM News, managing director of Cork Airport Niall McCarthy says the airport are in discussions with a number of carriers and is calling on the regulator to drop proposals to decrease charges at Dublin Airport:
