Cork Airport say they're expecting an additional 40,000 passengers to pass through the gates of the airport this year

It comes as a result of the new transatlantic flights which departed yesterday evening

154 passengers were on board the first direct service from Cork to the U.S which took off just before five o'clock.

It's also the first time passengers will be able to travel to the U.S from Cork.

Speaking to RedFM News Managing Director at Cork Airport Neil McCarthy says everyone will benefit from the new routes.
