Cork anti-water charges protester praises campaign

It's now expected an independent commission will be set up to examine water charges.
"We've won the battle, but not the war"
Those are the words of Sharon Deane from Togher, who was involved in one of the first water protests mounted in the country.
The former Elm Vale Estate resident was speaking after it emerged that a temporary suspension of water charges for nine months could be on the cards in an effort to allow the establishment of a new Government.
As part of the new deal, it is expected an independent commission will be set up to examine the issue of water charges.
The protests against metering programme began in Cork and quickly spread around the country and for many people the water issue determined how they cast their vote in the recent General Election.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Sharon Deane says she's glad their campaign had such an impact.
