Cork beaches and marinas awarded Blue Flag Status

7 Cork beaches and two marinas have been awarded Blue Flag Status at an awards ceremony today.

A record 90 Blue Flags and 59 Green Coast Awards were announced by the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy this afternoon in Wicklow.

Beaches awarded Blue Flag status in Cork include Barleycove, Inchydoney and Garretstown, while Kinsale Yacht Club and The Royal Cork Yacht Club in the Marina also receieved the accolade.

The programme is one of the world's most recognisable eco-labels and aims to raise environmental awareness as well as promoting sound environmental management of beaches, marinas and inland bathing waters around the world.

All 81 beaches and 7 marinas awarded Blue Flags in 2017 retained their status this year.
