Cork beaches could soon become wheelchair accessible
Cork County Council are considering providing facilities at beaches for wheelchair users.
The initiative was first carried out by Kerry Council Council who introduced a specially designed Hippocampe chair at a number of beaches which allows wheelchair users to navigate over the sand and access the water.
The Irish Examiner reports Cork County Council and the Disability Federation are awaiting the results of a survey to determine the requirements of wheelchair users before any improvement works can be carried out.
However its believed not every beach would be suitable but the initiative would be introduced at some of the major ones across Cork.
