Cork businesses expect turnover boost from June onwards

Cork businesses are reporting an increase in confidence for the second half of the year. 

A new Cork Chamber Economic Trends Survey shows business confidence is stabilising at the tail end of the pandemic with 84% of respondents reporting confidence compared to 68% in the third quarter of last year. 

Businesses say Covid-19 remains the biggest threat to trade, however 42% of respondents say they expect to see a boost in turnover from June onwards. 

The survey also shows that confidence in the Irish economy is rated at 52%. 

Speaking to RedFM News, President of Cork chamber Paula Cogan outlines why businesses are reporting increased confidence. 

"I think a lot of it has to do with the rollout of the vaccination programme, as you can imagine that's giving people confidence that we are finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

"I also think that the impending issue of Brexit that hung over us for so long, while it is impacting on some areas and some sectors it's not having that major impact that we would have anticipated, which is very welcome as well as you can imagine."
