Cork charity feeling the pinch due to a surge in demand for help

St Vincent de Paul say they don't have the cash to meet the demands placed on their service in Cork.
St Vincent de Paul say they don't have the cash or the resources to meet the demands placed on their service in Cork.
That's despite recent figures from the European Commission which indicate that Ireland will be the fastest-growing economy in Europe this year.
However the charity says recovery isn't being felt by everyone and their service is experiencing a 10% increase in demand each year.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Brendan Dempsey of the SVP says they're now in a position where sometimes all they can do is hand out food:
