Cork City Council Agrees To Accept Recommendation To Extend City Boundary

Cork City Council last night agreed unanimously to accept the recommendations of the McKinnen Review Group on Local Government in Cork.
The group proposed a boundary extension instead of a merger of Cork City and County Council.
It means areas such as Ballincollig, Cork Airport, Blarney, Glanmire, Little Island and Carrigtwohill will now fall under the remit of Cork City Council.
Members of the city council are to meet in private next week to further discuss the details.
Meanwhile many members of Cork County Council have expressed concern about the impact of a boundary extension which will see the loss of a number of revenue generating areas for the council.
Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Seamus McGrath says he believes there should have been some form of public consultation:
