Cork City Council encourage investment in city centre street

The local authority have rolled out a new initiative on North Main Street.

Cork City Council says it is encouraging people who are sitting on properties or dilapidated buildings on North Main Street to invest in them.

The Council has rolled out a painting initiative and appointed a designated director of service for the area in an effort to breathe new life into the street.

Dunnes Stores is the latest retailer which has announced that it's to close its doors on the street and follows in the footsteps of Maher Sports and Roman House who all closed in recent months.

Traders on the street have expressed their concern for the street and say if Dunnes withdraw from the shopping centre the next priority for the city has to be getting  another outlet to fill the space as soon as possible.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM, Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Chris O'Leary says the street has to be revitalised.
