Cork City Council Unveils Traveller Accommodation Plan
It will see a purpose built housing scheme developed on a number of sites across the city including Ellis' Yard in Ballyvolane
Cork City Council has unveiled a Traveller accommodation plan which will see a purpose built housing scheme developed on a number of sites across the city including Ellis' Yard in Ballyvolane
The Traveller Accommodation Programme, which will run for a four year period up to 2024 , will see Spring Lane developed into a housing estate for travellers
38 families currently live at Spring Lane which was originally designed for just 10 families
Funding will be sought in January and construction could start late next year.
The Chief Executive of the City Council says a planning process for accommodation at Ellis' Yard will allow locals have their say in the face of opposition to the Traveller housing at the former illegal dump
The plan proved to be quite contentious as four councillors voted against it including Fianna Fail Cllr Ken O'Flynn who outlined his difficulties with the plan to the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM
