Cork City Council Votes Not To Change Rate Of Local Property Tax

Cork City Council has voted not to change the rate of local property tax.

Last nights decision follows a ballot by County Councillors to increase the tax in the County by 5%.

The motion to increase the tax was brought forward by the Green Party, who described the defeat as a missed opportunity to turn €3 million in local taxes into €12 million in matched funds from the Government and European Union.

Local authorities have the power to increase or decrease the charge by up to 15% every year
