Cork City Fire Brigade receive award for heroic horse rescue

  Cork City Fire Brigade are to receive an award from animal rights group ARAN for their heroic rescue of a horse in a river near Blarney last week. The crew of the Ballyvolane Amber Unit will each receive a framed certificate of ARAN's "Compassionate Fire Brigade Award" The horse, who was called Gerry after one of the fire fighters, was trapped chest-deep in the river's muddy water for at least two days before the two hour rescue coordinated by The ISPCA and Cork City Fire Brigade got under way.
