Cork city set to become "cashless"
It's a new initiative being launched by the Cork City Centre Forum.
Cork is set to lead the way in Ireland by becoming the first city to go "cashless".
The Cork Cashes out project which involves hundreds of stakeholders will allow customers conduct all business electronically through phones, with users paying for food, drink, transport, and other transactions through a simple swipe and pay system.
The major plan would involve businesses installing technology so consumers would just have to hold their phone to a cashpoint for an instant transaction.
The cashless society is one of long-term aims of the newly formed Cork City Centre Forum to improve business workings in the city and make it safter.
Speaking to RedFM News Paul Montgomery of Reardons who is a member of the Forum, explains why it's being rolled out in Cork.
