Cork City's Self Harm Figures Are Twice The National Average

400 men out of every 100,000 self-harm in Cork City


A Cork doctor says unless action is taken now the city will continue to hold the record for the highest rate of male self-harm in the country.

HSE figures revealed in today's Evening Echo show that almost 400 men out of every 100,000 self-harm in Cork City - that's almost twice the national average. 

Concern has also been expressed about the number of women self-harming in the city which is also higher than the national average.

Speaking to RedFM News Blackpool based GP, DR John Sheehan says while it's difficult to find out what the reason is behind the statistics, intervention is needed:
