Cork college graduate escalates campaign to improve special needs supports

A Cork college graduate has pledged to write to the Minister for Education on a monthly basis in her bid to ensure that improvements in special education supports are delivered.
Jessica Ní Mhaoláin, who is visually impaired, has written an open letter to Minister Richard Bruton outlining some of the shortcomings in the education system, in particular cuts to special needs assistants which she says are now viewed as a luxury rathan than a necessity.
The 24-year-old is hoping to develop a rapport with the Minister in order to give his office an insight from a service users perspective prior to budgetary decision making.
Speaking to RedFM News Jessica says there are glaring shortcoming especially in relation to special needs assistants:
