Cork Consultant Says A&E's Encountering Increase In Drug Users In Emergency Department
A consultant in emergency medicine in Cork says A&E's are encountering an increasing number of people presenting under the influence of drugs.
Dr Chris Luke says it's presenting new challenges for staff and patients in emergency departments Leeside as those under the influence of drugs are difficult to deal with physically and medically.
Calls are now being made for a multi-disciplinary approach to tackle the amount of presentations by those under the influence of alcohol and drugs being experienced in Cork A&E's.
Dr Chris Luke, a consultant in emergency medicine at Cork University and the Mercy Hospitals says people that present in A&E's now often have a mix of drugs on board:
