Cork continues to have the highest number of work related deaths in the country

Figures from the Health and Safety Authority show that 8 people lost their lives in 2016, which represents 35% of the total number killed in the country

The HSA say over the past 6 years, almost half of all workplace fatalities were vehicle related, and the fatality rate in Cork has been consistently higher compared to any other county, for the last number of years.

A two week intensive campaign has been launched today, with additional workplace inspections expected across the city and county in the Transport, Retail, Recycling and Manufacturing sectors.

Speaking to RedFM News Senior Inspector with the HSA Deirdre Sinnott says agriculture remains the sector most at risk from vehicle related deaths and injuries
