Cork County Council accused of economic sabotage as boundary extension row rumbles on

"Disingenuous, cynical, and an attempt to frustrate the MacKinnon Implementation Group".
That's how one city councillor has described the latest move by Cork County Council in their battle against the recommendation of the group to extend the city boundary amid fears including loss of revenue, loss of funding for local initiatives and loss of identity.
Last evening after a meeting in County Hall the local authority announced their intention to seek legal advice on the recommendation of the review group and to invoke a section of the Local Government Act 1991 which will allow it to put its views out to public consultation.
The MacKinnon Implementation group are due to meet today to receive presentations from both local authorities on the city boundary extension.
The MacKinnon Group are due to put a report to cabinet by the end of September with a decision expected by the end of October however Cork County Council's stance is expected to delay the process:
Speaking to RedFM News Fianna Fáil Cllr Tim Brosnan says it's nothing more than economic sabotage and he believes the County Council are trying to delay the implementation of the report:
