Cork County Council Adopts New Guidelines To Ensure Irish language Used Correctly At All Roadworks

Under national legislation, the Irish language must be used on such signage

The council received several complaints about the non-use and misuse of the Irish language at roadworks.

All utility companies, and contractors, applying for temporary road closures or traffic management licences in the county, will have to use signs in both English and Irish, and must be spelt correctly.

It is hoped that the Irish and English languages would be included on the same signs.

However, an Irish-only requirement remains in place for Gaeltacht areas in the county.
