Cork County Council Struggle to Secure Properties

New figures have illustrated Council's struggle securing secondhand properties to alleviate the housing waiting list.

A new report shows that the number of vacant houses and apartments in the county has decreased by 14% over the past five years. 

However over the same period the population has also increase by 17,000 and that figure is expected to rise. 

The Irish Examiner reports that many of the vacant properties are in areas where there was not a housing need which is further aggravating the sitation. 

However the council says progress is being made building hosues and acquiring ones via turnkey projects.

Speaking to RedFM News County Lord Mayor Cllr Seamus McGarth says addressing the housing waiting list is a top priority for the council:
