Cork County Council to challenge order to scrap plans for a 'Kildare Village' style shopping outlet in Carrigtwohill

Cork County Council are to challenge an order to scrap plans for a 'Kildare Village' style shopping outlet in the High Court.

The Irish Examiner reports the government ordered County Hall to remove a variation from their county development plan that would have allowed the plan to proceed.

The Minister for local government told the council in December that the variation was not consistent with national guidelines on spatial planning and had not set out an overall strategy for the area.

However the Council maintains the region can support a large outlet centre near Carrigtwohill, and a solicitor for the Council said the Minister's decision was flawed, irrational, and unlawful and claimed the Minister had also acted outside jurisdiction.

The matters has been adjourned until next month.
