Cork County Council To Write To The Housing Minister To Seek A Rent Freeze

Councillors want the freeze to extend to all areas within the county boundary currently not covered by rent pressure zones
The Echo reports that a meeting at County Hall heard that working families in Cokr who earn too much to qualify for housing support but not enough to secure a mortgage are under severe financial pressure due to rising rents
Rent increases are capped at 4% in rent pressure zones however areas outside these zones such as Midleton have been hit hard with sharp rises in recent times with the average rent for a three bed house in the area now standing at 1400 euro a month
Councillors say limits need to be put on a housing market that is going out of control
