Cork County Council workers defer strike action

Strike action by Cork County Council workers is to be deferred to allow the continuation of talks aimed at resolving the dispute.

SIPTU and Council Management entered into talks at the Workplace Relations Commission after strike notice was served in February

Workers in the road maintenance department expressed their frustration that the council had not acted on calls for extra staff to be recruited.

Unions say they lack the manpower to adequately service the 12,800 km of roads across Cork county and the 11,000 km of coastline.

Talks at the WRC are continuing between the two sides in an effort to find a satisfactory resolution
