Cork Cycling group call for improved infrastructure for cyclists

The Cork Cycling Campaign says many primary roads in Ireland are not suitable for cyclists.

Seven cyclists have died so far this year on Irish roads, with the most recent fatality occuring at the Ballincollig bypass.

The group says instead of insisting that vulnerable road users wear ‘high-viz’ clothing, the Government should focus more on lower speed limits and changes in road design that encourage safer driving.

The campaign works with both Cork city and county councils to improve everyday conditions for cyclists, and say the lack of adequate infrastructure for cyclists is a major contributory factor in these collisions.

Speaking to RedFM News Cork Cycling Campaign spokesperson Stephen Koch says the Government must do more to protect cyclists.
