Cork Dad issues heartbreaking plea after his son's death
A Cork father whose son died from a seizure as attending paramedics were unable to adminsiter a potentially life saving drug says he has been left with a lot of questions. 32 year old Kieran O'Connor was intellectually disabled and suffered from severe epileptic seizures and went into a major fit at the family's home in Shanagarry on April 13th last His sister raised the alarm and says the ambulance took over 35 minutes to respond to the scene. However, because the attending paramedics were not authorised to administer a powerful drug called Buccal Midazolam as only advanced paramaedics are allowed by the HSE to administer the drug, they had to use alternative treatments. The paramedics were unable to stop the seizure before it killed the young man. Kieran O'Connor's death will now be the focus of a Cork coroner's inquest.
