Cork doctor speaks out against new Children and Family Relationships Bill
A Cork based fertility doctor is urging the Oireachtas to reject the new Children and Family Relationships Bill. Dr John Waterstone says on the issue of egg and sperm donation the bill is restrictive and carries harsh consequences for the many thousands of couples in this country affected by fertility issues. The legislation will introduce an outright ban on anonymous egg and sperm donation and also proposes the establishment of a National Donor register.. All couples who have a donor-conceived baby will be forced to have their personal details along with their childrens' details entered on that register. Dr Waterstone says the register is an invasion of a couples' privacy and only serves to stigmatise couples and their children.. Click the PLAY button above to hear.
