Cork Doctor warns against steroid use

A Cork doctor has issued a warning about the use of steroids and illegal drugs among young people to assist muscle growth and fat loss.

Blackpool based Dr John Sheehan says the use of these steroids could cause huge health problems in the future and is urging parents to educate themselves and these drugs and know what their children are putting into their bodies.

Dr Sheehan says the steroids are a big temptation because of the muscle gains in a short time but he says the side effects can be severe such as liver and kidney problems, acne and hair loss.

Speaking to RedFM News Dr Sheehan says women in particular can be at high risk as these steroids can lead to heart palpitations and breathing difficulties and long term damage such as heart and stroke risk.
