Cork doctor warns against tanning injections

A Cork doctor is raising concerns about young people using tanning injections.

He’s concerned people are starting to use them again now that restrictions are lifting.

It involves injecting melatonin into the skin to stimulate a tan.

GP John Sheehan from Blackpool Bridge Surgery says they’re potentially dangerous.

"The main side effects tend to be nasuea and cramps and things like that with it.

"The difficulty is that nobody knows what they are, you just go on the internet and buy them, so you could be buying anything made up that's called this and that's the difficulty.

"Another difficulty is if people are injecting, are they using sterile needles?"
