Cork families struggle to secure houses on HAP scheme

Securing Housing on the HAP scheme remains an issue for families across Cork.
That's according to the Housing Charity Threshold, who say increased demand for a decreasing supply of houses Leeside, makes the Housing Assistance Payment Scheme less attractive to landlords.
Recent reports from the Property Owners Association has shown over 40,000 landlords have left the market in the past 5 years.
This has left many families struggling to secure long term rented accommodation in Cork, with landlords opting to rent to cash tenants, rather than those in receipt of HAP.
Speaking to RedFM News Regional Manager for Threshold Niall Horgan says HAP is paid one month in arrears and this could make it unattractive to landlords:
