Cork gardaí crackdown on speed, drink driving, and mobile phone usage as part of European road safety day

Speed, drink and drug driving, and mobile phone use are being targetted by Gardaí as part of this year's 'European Day Without A Road Death', or EDWARD.
The annual 24 hour safety event started at midnight across Europe.
Gardaí say the initiative is aimed at raising awareness about road safety, all year round.
It follows a number of recent fatalities on Cork roads, most recently two people lost their lives on the Cork -Mallow road after a collision between a truck and a car, and a cyclist was killed following a collision with a tractor on the N28 Cork to Ringaskiddy road last week.
