Cork Graduate writes open letter to Minister
A Cork college graduate, who is visually impaired, says special needs assistants are being viewed as a luxury as opposed to a necessity.
Jessica Ní Mhaoláin issued an open letter to the Minister for Education in which she outlined some of the shortcomings in relation to special education supports.
The 24-year-old is hoping to undertake a PHD but says she would not have made it as far as third level education without her SNA and other special education supports.
She has vowed to speak to other service users and write to Minister Richard Bruton on a monthly basis in a bid to make his office aware of the difficulties being faced by students with special needs.
Speaking to RedFM News Jessica says everyone should have the opportunity to access third level education and the government should take this on board when making budgetary decisions:
