Cork Group Issue Fresh Appeal For Irish Water To Be Dissolved

The Right2Water campaign want the responsibility for water to be handed back to local authorities

The call comes after hundreds in the city centre were left without water last month due to a burst mains.

Many business owners who were left counting the cost hit out at Irish Water after the utility said it would not be offering compensation. 

The company says discounts or refunds are only provided if water is not safe for more than 24 hours as dictated by their governing body, the commission of energy regulation - in this case water was restored to all areas within 12 hours. 

However some traders said although water was restored it wasn't usable for the remainder of the day.
