Cork Group calls for Solar Farm planning guidelines

The Solar Energy sector remains largely unregulated in Ireland.

That's according to a Cork Community Group who says there is an urgent need for National Solar Farm Planning Guidelines.

The Jagoes Mills Action Group is calling on the Government to respond to a motion by Cork County Council for a moratorium on solar farms in the county until proper guidelines are put in place.

JMAG have campaigned against a proposed 32 acre solar power generating plant in Farrangalway in Kinsale, saying guidelines are necessary to avoid uncontrolled development of the solar energy sector.

An Bord Pleanala recently refused permission for a 200 acre solar farm in Wexford due to lack of National Guidelines.
