Cork Homeless Advocate Criticises Vacant Stepdown Homeless Facility

One of Cork's most active advocates for the city's homeless says it's a sin that people are being put into doorways when a step down facility for homeless men is lying idle on the Western Road.
The founder of Helping Cork's Homeless, Christina Chalmers has described as "disgraceful" the fact that the fully furnished step down facility for homeless men has been empty for over a decade...
The property on the Western Road was purchased by addiction treatment charity Cuan Mhuire in 2007, however its doors have remained locked ever since due to lack of state funding.
Christina Chalmers held a meeting with the Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin yesterday about the 16 bed step down facility and speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Christina says it's time that action was taken
