Cork housing charity expect increase in calls for help following lifting of blanket eviction ban

The ban was introduced in October last year due to the implementation of the 5 kilometre travel limit and expires today following a ten-day grace period.

Threshold say they are already dealing with 246 notices of termination from last year and are appealing to landlords to give their tenants extra time to arrange for another place to live.

They are also calling on the government to extend the eviction ban.

Speaking to RedFM News, Edel Conlan from Threshold in Cork says people should contact them immediately if they're ordered to leave their home:

"50% of the notices that come to thresholds are often invalid. We're hoping that we won't see new notices being issued for some time, and that landlords will consider giving tenants extra time in trying to source private rented accommodation, as this is very difficult."
