Cork Is The Preferred Location for Eirgrid's Electricity Exchange Landing Point
The proposed landing point is in Knockraha in East Cork.
If given the green light the project will facilitate the exchange of electricity between Ireland and mainland Europe via a submarine cable with a conversion station in Knockraha in East Cork.
The project has a budget of €900 million and is being undertaken in conjunction with the French Transmission System Operator, RTE.
Speaking to RedFM News Eirgrid's John Fitzgerald says the project will create some jobs at construction phase if given the go ahead:
