Cork Kayaker Drowns In Kerry

A file is being prepared today following the death of a young Cork Woman in a drowning incident yesterday afternoon.

The woman in her 30s died while  kayaking on the River Roughty in Co. Kerry yesterday afternoon.

It's reported the woman was among a group of five kayakers from Cork city and county when she was separated from her four male companions, including her partner, not far from Kilgarvan and was later discovered trapped beneath a tree in a rocky gorge shortly after 12 noon.

They were unable to free the woman and she tragically drowned in the river and the emergency services helped recover her body at ten to 2 yesterday afternoon.

Local TD Michael Healy Rae says the waterway is a popular spot with kayakers
