Cork man detained after Limerick robbery

A Cork man has been arrested in connection with a robbery that took place in Limerick on Monday night. The man, who is believed to be in his forties and is from Knocknaheeney, was arrested along with another man who is from Clondalkin, Dublin. The Garvey family, who live in Pallasgreen in Limerick, were terrorised in their home on Monday night by three masked men who smashed through a door to the house and then threatened the family with shot guns. The father of the family, Gerry Garvey, was handcuffed while his wife Anne was forced to open the family safe and give its contents to the raiders. The ordeal lasted about four minutes before the masked men got away with about €4,000. The two men who have been arrested were stopped by Gardaí in a patrol car in Buttevant. A search of the car uncovered a large sum of money as well as house-breaking equipment. The men are currently being detained in Bruff Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act where Gardaí are continuing their investigations in to the incident.
