Cork man speaks out about depression

Sean O'Donovan says the first step is to talk to someone.

AWARE are advising people living with depression that it does not have to mean an automatic life sentence.

The organisation is highlighting some mechanisms that people can adopt in their every day life to better cope with bouts of depression and bipolar as part of Depression Awareness Week.

Experts say early intervention is vital once depression has been diagnosed as a recent OECD report found that the average age of onset for all mental health issues is 14, with the average gap to treatment 12 years.

Sean O'Donovan who has suffered from depression and anxiety for the last number of years contacted Cork's RedFM earlier this week to let listeners know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Sean says the first step is to talk to someone.
