Cork Needs Greater Spread Of Hotel Beds To Cope With Demand

Many projects are already underway including the Maldron Hotel on South Mall
There's a call for a greater spread of hotel beds around the country to keep up with increasing demand.
The number of tourists visiting the country from overseas is on the rise with Cork voted the third most popular county for tourists in Ireland in 2017.
To cope with growing demand for hotel beds in Cork a number of applications have been made for hotel developments
The Metropole Hotel on MacCurtain Street is undergoing a major revamp while the new 163 roomed Maldron Hotel on South Mall is set to be completed by Christmas 2018.
A recent STR survey shows an 8 percent increase in the cost of a one night hotel stay outside of Dublin, compared to the same time last year.
Eoghan Corry of TravelExtra.ie says more areas with a concentration of hotel beds are needed.
